IMPORTANT CHANGES TO REQUESTS FOR HOLIDAY DURING TERM TIME IN YEARS 10 AND 11
The school has a discretionary power to allow leave of absence for up to 10 days in any academic year for the purpose of annual family holidays in exceptional circumstances during term time. It is inevitable that absence during term-time will cause students to miss vital lessons while causing stress and other problems when they return to school and we would appreciate your support in reducing the number of requests for holidays during term time.
The Department for Education guidelines state that schools should not authorise absences if they believe it is to the detriment of a student's education or if the absences are during school exam periods.
Vital teaching in new elements of all courses takes place during the whole of Years 10 and 11. In addition students will be working towards GCSE examinations including module examinations throughout these years. Therefore with effect from September 2011 we will not authorise any holiday taken during term time for students in Years 10 and 11.
