Smithdon High School – A Specialist College in Mathematics and ICT
Smithdon High School is proud to have achieved this designation as a Specialist College in September 2004. We feel that these subject areas will impact on the everyday teaching and learning of our pupils.
As a specialist Mathematics and ICT college we have:
- refurbished these two subject areas’ accommodation resulting in a new Mathematics block and ICT complex.
- installed Interactive Whiteboards in every subject area, thereby enabling considerable development of teaching and learning opportunities.
- substantially increased our staffing in Mathematics and ICT to provide the students with more teaching and non-teaching support.
- provided enhanced Mathematics staffing at post 16 creating smaller teaching groups.
- substantially improved the general ICT resources across the school.
- recruited an outstanding ICT support team to ensure our very extensive ICT network, the associated software and the staff using the system are all well supported.
- developed the delivery of GCSE Statistics to the most able pupils.
- created the opportunity for all pupils throughout their time at Smithdon High School to study ICT receiving a recognised qualification at the end of Year 11.
Our future aims include the following:
- to utilize the skills learned in Mathematics and ICT to enhance pupils achievement across all subject areas.
- to ensure pupils’ highest achievement by means of the purpose built accommodation and expertise in Mathematics and ICT.
- to strengthen further our transitional work and subsequent relationships with our feeder schools in order to ensure the best possible progress for the pupils in the area.
- to raise the profile of Smithdon High School within the community as a centre of lifelong learning.
